Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have issued an apology after receiving backlash for writing a letter on behalf of their That ’70s Show co-star, Danny Masterson.

That 70’s Show actor Danny Masterson has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being found guilty of raping two women earlier this year. Masterson was first charged in 2017 and remains adamant that the encounters were consensual, with his defense lawyers planning to appeal the convictions.

However, a judge told Masterson that “One way or another, you will have to face your past actions and their consequences.” With the disgraced actor in jail, two of his former co-stars have been feeling the heat after their letters of support for Masterson were made public.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis have now apologized for their letters, taking to Instagram to address the situation.

The pair posted a video together, with Kutcher beginning his apology by saying: “We are aware of the pain caused by the character letters we wrote on behalf of Danny Masterson.”

“We support the victims. “We have done this historically through our work and will continue to do so in the future,” Kunis added. Kutcher later explained that the Masterson family reached out to the couple and asked them to write letters representing someone they “had known for 25 years.”

“They are intended to be read by the judge and not to undermine the victims’ testimony or re-traumatize them in any way,” Kutcher said. “We would never want to do that. And we are sorry if that happened.”

However, their apology video was not well received as unimpressed viewers flocked to watch it. Twitter to share their outrage.

“It’s giving the scenario. It’s rehearsing. It was like ‘oh shit, we got caught!’” one person wrote, while another said, “They’re not really sorry for protecting him, they’re just sorry that it got out came out and led to a backlash.”
