Like most other social media platforms, TikTok uses hashtags to help users find the content and topics they’re looking for on the app. But can you block hashtags? Here’s everything you need to know.

There’s an incredible amount of content posted to TikTok every day, and you can find videos on every topic or community on the platform.

Users typically see the majority of the content they view on the app from your Pages, an algorithm-driven feed that recommends content to you based on what it thinks you’ll be interested in.

However, you may notice that you’re constantly being suggested certain types of videos on FYP that you’re not interested in. These types of videos often use the same hashtag.

Is there a way to block certain hashtags on TikTok? Here’s what you need to know.

Can you block hashtags on TikTok?

You can prevent videos with certain hashtags from appearing on your Friends Page — just follow these instructions:

  1. Open TikTok.
  2. Scroll down your FYP until you find a video with the hashtag you want to block, or search for it in the search bar.
  3. Long press the video and then click ‘Not interested’ in the pop-up menu.
  4. On the ‘We’ll show less similar videos’ pop-up, click ‘Details’.
  5. The ‘Hashtag Filter’ screen will appear. Tap the hashtags you no longer want to see, then tap ‘Submit’. You will no longer see videos with these hashtags in your ‘For You’ feed. Unable to filter certain keywords.’

To change the words you’ve filtered, go to ‘Settings and privacy’, then to ‘Content preferences’ then to ‘Filter video keywords’.
