Geethali Norah Jones Shankar was born on March 30, 1979 in New York City, United States. She is the daughter of Ravi Shankar, the legendary Indian Musician, and Sue Jones, the American concert producer. Her parents divorced in 1986, after which Norah lived with her mother in Grapevine, Texas. Initially, she sang in church and later studied piano and vocals. She attended Colleyville Middle School and Grapevine High School and then transferred to Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts located in Dallas.
