The world is full of wonders with different cultures and religions. Every culture and religion has its own beautiful and important customs to follow. Most people follow Western culture but they don’t know that there are other cultures that are beautiful and have their own significance. Now you’re probably thinking why we’re saying this, so before we give an answer, we wanted to know what our readers think about when they celebrate the New Year. Most of you would probably say December 31 is the day we all celebrate the New Year on the last day of the last month of the year because we follow the Gregorian calendar.

Nowruz is honored by which religion

But in some cultures, they celebrate the new year on different days according to their religion. Okay, don’t get confused because the Persians know what we’re talking about. Monday marks the beginning of spring, and that means celebrations celebrating the centuries-old Nowruz holiday are underway. This celebration is commonly known as the Persian New Year, and the world Nowruz has described what it means. The word Nowruz means “new day” and symbolizes renewal and revival for the more than 300 million festival-goers in modern-day Iran and beyond.

Historically, this holiday has been celebrated in the Middle East and parts of Asia. This festive celebration only lasts for 2 weeks but it’s been quite a fun and exciting week. Celebrations of this festival include dance, food, poetry, and singing. However, this year, the Persian New Year will coincide with the holy month of Ramadan, the Muslim holy month. Now talking about Nowruz it is more than 3,000 years old. However, Nowruz’s exact origins are still unclear, the origins of the holidays certainly go back to ancient times.

After research, we learned that Nowruz is the day to mark the new year using the vernal equinox – when the Sun moves around the Earth’s equator – which may have started as a Babylonian tradition. But it is said that Nowruz at least has some starting point from one of the oldest religions in the world, Zoroastrianism, which has some contemporaries in North America, Iran and India. Nowruz is essentially remembered by the Kurds in Türkiye and Iraq, as well as by the Shia, Parsis and Iranians of the Indian subcontinent, and the Jewish community. In addition, this festival is also celebrated by Iranian communities in Europe and America, including Toronto, Los Angeles, London, Phoenix and Cologne. Holidays can also be connected to Jamshid.
