Priscilla Presley is open about her decision not to remarry after the breakup of her six-year marriage to Elvis Presley.
During a Q&A event at the South Point Casino in Las Vegas on Friday, the actress, 78, appeared to confirm rumors that she had vowed never to marry again as long as her ex-husband lived.
“I just don’t think he could handle it,” she said of the late rock icon, to whom she was married from 1967 to 1973.
Despite the fact that Elvis died in 1977, Priscilla kept that promise for the past four decades. “To be honest, I never wanted to get married after him. I never had the desire – she said. “No one could match him.”
Priscilla also explained why she and Elvis decided not to have any more children after welcoming their daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, in 1968. “Elvis felt he had a very busy schedule and felt a little guilty about not being around as much when Lisa was younger,” she told the audience.
“With his schedule and touring, he just felt like he wasn’t around enough to give a lot of attention to having another child.”

In a separate interview with British journalist Piers Morgan on TalkTV on Thursday, Priscilla admitted that Elvis’ sudden death at the age of 42 still affects her deeply all these years later. She said she still vividly remembers his road manager, Joe Esposito, breaking the terrible news to her over the phone.
“I can still hear Joe Esposito’s words, ‘Cilla, Elvis is dead,’ and it was like, I just couldn’t imagine that he would ever, especially at his age and all, still so young and wanting to do so much and have planned so much, and there is no him, no conversation with him, no him to be the father of our child,” she told Morgan.
“My biggest fear was Lisa, and how should I tell her,” she added. “She was only 9 years old then.”

Priscilla also revealed what drew her to Elvis, including his sharp sense of humor. The couple first met at a party in West Germany in 1959 when she was 14 and he was 24.
“He would walk into the room and it was like, ‘Wow,’” she explained of his commanding presence. “I mean, he didn’t realize what he had as far as how he looked or how he felt or his charisma, but there were a few times when he would come to himself and say, ‘Damn, I look good,’ jokingly, when he would be in his bathroom and he was about to go somewhere, but he had a great sense of humor.”
She also remembered the “Jailhouse Rock” singer as incredibly caring, describing the moment he drove by a car dealership in Memphis and saw a woman looking at cars. In a spontaneous gesture of generosity, he surprised his wife by buying her a brand new blue Cadillac.
“That’s him, that’s what he would do,” said Priscilla. “Anyone who was in trouble, he’d give them money. Anyone who had a problem, anything really that they couldn’t afford, even some of the guys who needed medical care, he’d pay for it.”

Priscilla praised Coppola, 52, for her honest interpretation of her personal story. “I think she did her homework. I mean, she and I, we talked about it, and living with Elvis Presley, people think, ‘Oh that’s great, it’s great, that’s Elvis Presley,’ but I went through ups and downs with him in a very crucial part of his life.” , she said in an interview with TalkTV.
“His ups and downs, his struggles, his fears, so when you live with someone so famous, and you’ve been through it with them, it’s that part of privacy that’s hard to give up, hard to share. No I don’t want to give too much away because and I want some of it myself, it’s just for me,” she continued.
