That’s exactly what’s happening to Russian makeup artist Daria Graph after one of her makeup transformation videos went viral.

TikTok makeup artist faces backlash for “changing race”

Daria Graph is a prominent makeup artist on TikTok who boasts over 3 million followers on the video sharing app. Her looks often feature bright colors or artistic elements… but some of her videos are controversial.

On August 30, Graph posted a shocking transformation clip showing the blonde makeup artist with a long curly wig and dark skin.

Commenters were quick to criticize Graph for seemingly using “blackface” in this transformation video, which currently has more than 4.8 million views.

“Um, why does she think this is okay?” one user wrote.

Another said: “Insane makeup skills, but no, this shouldn’t have happened.”

“This is ‘black face lite™️’ and you are so brave to pin it…” another wrote.

Graph continued to upload the transformation several more times – but that wasn’t the only time she performed this look. In two other videos uploaded last year, she also wore a curly wig and showed off darker skin, similarly sparking accusations of “blackface.”

To date, this is not the first makeup artist on TikTok to be criticized for “changing her race” using cosmetics. Earlier this year, TikTok user easy_baobo sparked backlash on social media after impersonating late NBA star Kobe Bryant, sparking a heated conversation online.
