Ruby Franke, mother of famous family vlogger Channel 8 Passengers, was arrested on August 30 on suspicion of serious child abuse that left two of her children hospitalized.

Ruby Franke is best known for her former family channel, 8 Passengers, where the family documents their lives and posts hilarious videos that often go viral on YouTube.

However, on August 30, 2023, Fox13 reported that “8 Passengers” mother Ruby Franke was arrested along with Jodi Hildebrandt, founder of parent counseling service ConneXions, for two counts of child abuse serious.

The New York Times reported that Franke’s 12-year-old son climbed out of Hildebrandt’s window and went to a neighbor’s house Wednesday morning to ask for food and water. The child had duct tape on his ankles and wrists as well as open wounds. According to the affidavit, he appeared emaciated and malnourished.

The neighbor then continued to call the police, who quickly found Franke’s 10-year-old daughter in the same house. She was also described as malnourished.

Both children were taken to the hospital. According to the affidavit, the boy was taken for medical treatment “due to deep lacerations from being tied with ropes and from malnutrition.”

A search of Hildebrandt’s home found evidence “consistent with the markings” found on the 12-year-old boy, police said in a statement. Police contacted the Utah Department of Children and Family Services, and a total of four children were taken into care.

Both Franke and Hildebrandt were arrested and have been detained ever since.

Ruby Franke was denied bail over child abuse allegations

According to court records, on Thursday, August 31, a judge denied bail for both Franke and Hildebrandt because of “the severity of the injuries suffered by her two children inside the home.”

In response to news of her mother’s arrest, Franke’s eldest daughter Shari, 20, posted about her mother’s arrest to her Instagram Story on Wednesday night, NBC reported. Shari Franke, who previously posted that she has no contact with her biological family, shared pictures of police officers with the caption: “Finally.”

She quickly made another post on her Instagram Story, where she wrote: “Hello everyone. Today is a big day. My family and I are very happy that justice has been served. We have been trying to report this to the police and CPS for many years and are glad they finally decided to take action.”

“Children are safe, but there is a long way to go,” she continued in her post. “Please pray for them and also respect their privacy.”
